Acqua di Gio Price: $57
Hi. I'm going to share with you my experiences with Armani's ACQUA DI GIO today.
This fragrance came out way back in 1996 following the successes of Armani Mania (1981) and Armani Eau Pour Homme (1984). I have no hesitation in saying that Acqua Di Gio too is a success.
Armani's Acqua Di Gio for Men is constantly being advertised everywhere, particularly in Debenhams and Men's magazines such as Men's Fitness and Men's Health. This was a big factor behind me buying this because Armani weren't going to spend millions advertising this fragrance if it was not good. Neither would Debenhams display posters of it everywhere either.
I also bought my 50ml of Acqua Di Gio because of the positive reviews from word of mouth and from the Internet. I bought mine from Superdrug.
Anyway... Armani's Acqua Di Gio for Men comes in a simple creamy coloured card box which is wrapped in your usual clear film. The box for the 50ml bottle is approximately (H)105mm x (W) 60mm x (D) 30mm. On the front of the box, it says 'ACQUA DI GIO' with 'GIO' in a bigger font like on the bottle shown above. Under the name of the fragrance, it then says 'GIORGIO ARMANI'.
The bottle itself is made of translucent, colourless frosted glass with a silver lid and has 'ACQUA DI GIO' and 'GIORGIO ARMANI' printed on. The shape of the bottle is very similar to a bar of soap stood up vertically. The lid is like your orthodox lid a nozzle protected from spraying the bottle's contents by accident by a lid rather than an ON-OFF mechanism like Bvlgari Black or LYNX cans.
The fragrance itself is colourless but has a slight greenish sort of tinge to it. Before reading what I have to say about Acqua Di Gio, may be we should ask the question, 'What does Armani say about it?'
I've answered it for you:
"This aquatic, aromatic fragrance opens with a splash of fresh, calabrian bergamot, neroli and green tangerine. Light, aquatic nuances mix with jasmine petal, crisp rock rose, rosemary, fruity persimmon and warm Indonesian patchouli to create a masculine scent that is both fresh and sensual."
Personally, I find Acqua Di Gio a light fruity and woody scent which creates a 'fresh aura' around me. I think this scent is suited for daytime wear on a cool / warm day because it is a light fragrance. I prefer using Armani Code or Bvlgari Black in the evenings. There is no doubt that this fragrance is strong because it leaves a strong smell on your clothes (I apply my Acqua Di Gio before putting on my shirt) and leaves the vicinity with a bit of it too.
Like all Armani fragrances and other top quality fragrances, Acqua Di Gio is very long-lasting. I applied mine at 11am this morning and I can still smell it at 9pm. I think a few squirts of this fragrance will usually see out the day unless you are going swimming or something. Any more than five squirts, say, will leave a few people around you unconscious and cause a bit of nausea and dizziness.
PS. This is undoubtedly a pulling fragrance. Drag yourself down to Boots or Debenhams and spray a bit on your wrist and ask your girlfriend or a female friend to tell you what they think.
As I mentioned earlier, I bought my 50ml bottle of Acqua Di Gio from Superdrug. I have researched the prices and I list them below.
Superdrug: £26.50 (50ml)
Boots: £35.00 (50ml) £46.00 (100ml)
Debenhams: £36 (50ml)
The Perfume Shop: £34.99 (50ml) £44.99 (100ml)
I haven't seen it in a Bodycare or Savers yet but I will put the prices on if I see Acqua Di Gio on sale there. If you feel that those prices are a bit expensive, you may wish to purchase online.
www.strawberrynet.com (Delivery - Free): £20.50 (30ml), £23.50 (50ml), £35.00 (100ml Splash), £37.00 (100ml Spray)
www.cheapsmells.co.uk (Delivery £0.95 per item): £33.54 (100ml)
www.supaperfume.co.uk (Delivery - Free): £26.75 (50ml), £34.49 (100ml)
These prices are all for Eau De Toilette Spray unless stated otherwise. I think tehse prices represent how good Acqua Di Gio is and I think that it was £26 well spent at Superdrug and I expect my 50ml bottle to see me through to Easter next year.
Acqua Di Gio is a perfume right from the top drawer. You can't go wrong buying this; the only downside maybe that it's quite common compared to other fragrances. But as long as it gets you your girl, do you care if every male you has it?
Anyway, thanks for spending some of your time to read, rate and comment.
Vince :-)
